Yarn Still Life

I was feeling like just taking some pictures of how some of my yarn is displayed.  Some of it I have spun.  And just thinking how that is pleasing to ones creative self.  To surround us with things, that are sight, sound, and smell, within our havens.   That which we come home to. Or are stuck in sometimes. It calls us to create, to bring out thru whatever medium we choose, that which is "stuck" within, calling to be "let loose"...hey I know, but true artistic souls understand....

Dave Daniels Cabin Cove is a talented spinner, quilter, decorator, if I may say so, organizer, does alot of his own fiber dying, etc, I'm sure!  He displays his spun and plied yarns on his coffee table, in a bowl, lovely. Check out his site, and his links of other talented lovelys!

You can tell what colors I love the most!!!   This is spun mohair, the grey, love that, my undyed in coffee as of yet, merino, silk blend, and the purple, a wool, silk, ? blend.

Lastly, something I just enjoy looking at while it is summer, and the light can bounce off all the glass, and just sparkle some, this is out my front window in the living room, the southern view, I can see green, and flowers, and watch my Humphrey, who thinks he needs to be out as much as he can! I love to watch the changing seasons thru this view, sit in my "knitting" chair. I also have one in my "fireplace" cozy for winter room!

May your soul find a place of refuge, of peace, to sit a spell and breathe in and breathe out, and wonder at all you really can do, and are, that you were created to be, no matter who you are, or think you are. You are special, worthy of all things blessed, and good, and well.   

It is July, the 4th is over, and now we'll be hearing about fair time all around us. Uh the dog days of summer, who coined that phrase! One just keeps busy, and the days and "summer" just fly!  I am NOT much of a summer person, I seem to just shut down when the temperature and humidity rises. So I am thinking that it is more of a internal thing. Not my choice. But I do find enjoyment in every season, that has been my mandate.  I love the gardens, and of course, you need the sun, the humidity to get vegetables at their best, the flowers to bloom! It has been very dry though. 

I have been painting, knitting, spinning fiber, and sewing.  That is besides the usual things one does, and the garden, which is producing well enough.  I have thoughts already of what I would do differently, and plant next year. Mostly the bugs and rabbits have spared my leafy patch of green goodness! Of that I am thankful for!   I try to sit outside as much as is allowed by schedule and weather. It has been sooo hot. Today is beautiful, and have I sat outside....no. Must do that yet. I will post pictures of the knitting soon. Have started a sweater for my grandson, Colin, for his birthday which is in September, and am working on a lacy top for me, for my birthday, which is also in September.  I still need to get one going for another granddaughter, Hannah, her birthday is in September too!  The needles and yarn are justa  fly'in!

I also have been up to my daughter, Ruths. We have been working on her kitchen.  We tore out the drop ceiling, YUK!  Messy job, then sanded all her cupboards, and commenced on the staining, an antique red.  Looks very nice.  New hardware was installed, which never fits your existing holes, so new ones had to be drilled!  And we put in a faux brick back-splash.  We didn't like the "new brick" look so I went over it with an "aging" glaze to give it that old look. That we loved!  We were still touching up and fine tuning, but it is coming along very nicely!!!

Here is a couple of before pictures. Her house is around 100 years old. And probably updated in the 70's.

The "colorful" back splash was painted to look like tiles a couple of years ago.

This is in between, when the faux brick was put up, it is very grey and white in tone, and we needed some tan, brown going on!

The cupboards are stained.  It was a water based stain, that was very user friendly. No Oder's, loved it, and the color was mixed true to sample! The ceiling still needs the "electrician" touch, and the finishing of my daughters hubby, who does construction, that this doesn't scare him. When he is done we will plaster, and paint the walls.  The ceiling will have wainscoting put on...i.e. in paneling form. It will have a very nice cottagie feel!

The glazing over the brick, which I first went over with some of the color that will be on the walls.  Berber carpet is it's name!  That was dry brushed on first, then the coffee brown glaze. What a difference!

She is going to use an old lace tablecloth to hang for a curtain. That will look so cool!
